We are  a group of 150 9th graders given the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and create our own small businesses. We began by pitching our own individual product ideas to our class to narrow them down to best ideas. The top three pitches were selected from each class (a total of 18) and formed into companies consisting of 7 to 9 students.

 

Within each company, we assumed one of seven roles: sales, finance, marketing, design/production, organizer, documentarian and website manager. Each company then received an investment of $50 to purchase materials to create our products.

Over the course of a month, we produced and sold our products, adjusted pricing, redesigned our packaging and focused on creating spaces that replicated mini storefronts to attract customers. To conclude this project, we created a farmer’s market on the night of exhibition.
